ERP offers assistance for employment and a job information board. The ERP office is located in the Army Community Service (ACS) building, Bldg 548 on Second Street, and is open Monday through Friday form 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. General information is available on a walk-in basis. Personalized counseling and resume assistance is available by appointment only. Contact the ERP Coordinator at (760) 380-5165.
•Networking:
Personal networking is the best way to get a job. Call or see everyone you know and let them know you are looking for a job and what kind of job. ERP is here to help you with your networking efforts. Maintaining a positive attitude and being well prepared will also contribute to a successful job search.
•Advertising:
Check community and business bulletin boards at least once a week. Read all newsletters and flyers because many of them contain information about employment opportunities or Job Fairs in the area. Answer “Help Wanted” advertisements promptly and follow up.
•Applications:
Most employers on Fort Irwin require you to complete an application, regardless of your resume submission. To speed up this process make sure you have the following documentation on-hand: school transcripts, DD214 for prior military service, updated work experiences, copy of professional licenses (if applicable), certificates, letters of recommendation, special awards/honors, and the name/company/job title/address/phone number of at least three references.
•Resumes:
Having a resume is a crucial part of any job search. A resume helps you talk about your accomplishments in a confident and organized way. ERP can assist you with a resume or resumix (the federal resume builder). Call or email to make your appointment today!
•Appearance: - Have you ever heard the expression “dress for the job you want and not the one you have”?? This applies to your job search too. Dress clean, neat, and professional during every step of your job search.
Workshops are available, by registration, on the 1st Tuesday of every month from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the Forum. Workshops are available in Barstow at the Barstow Outreach Center, by registration, on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Please call in advance to register.
