The Fort Irwin Army Education Center provides a full range of voluntary educational services:
Army Education Counselors can assist soldiers, family members and DA civilians with educational goal clarification and degree/certificate program information. Furthermore, each educational institution at Fort Irwin has a program representative to provide program information and counseling regarding their respective degree/certificate program
Tuition Assistance is available for soldiers to help defray the cost of tuition. Currently Army TA provides up to $4,500.00 per fiscal year. The Army pays 100% of tuition with a dollar cap of $250.00 per semester hour.
The Army TA Authorization (DA 2171-E) must be completed prior to the school's last date to register. (Therefore, make sure you give yourself enough lead time to complete the required paper work prior to your class(es) beginning.)
The Basic Skills Education Program (BSEP) program, also known as FAST, provides soldiers with the opportunity to upgrade their skills in reading, math and writing. Many Fort Irwin soldiers use the BSEP program as a GT improvement class prior to retesting on the ASVAB/AFCT. Classes are conducted monthly and are taught by Barstow Community College. Classes meet from 0900-1700 Monday though Friday for two weeks. Contact an Education Counselor in the Education Center (Bldg. 1020) for an enrollment form and the annual BSEP/FAST class schedule.
